His death was confirmed on Thursday in a statement released by the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan, widely known as Mr Latin.Announcing the actor’s passing via Instagram, Mr Latin wrote, “#tampanglobal announces the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as Agbako.” He added that details regarding burial arrangements would be communicated to the public in due course.Born on February 25, 1923, in Egba Owode, Ogun State, Charles Olumo was a pioneer of the Yoruba movie industry. He began his acting career in the 1950s, quickly becoming a household name known for his tough, villainous roles in numerous Yoruba-language films.Over his illustrious career spanning decades, Baba Agbako featured in classics such as Anikura, Aiye, Saworoide, and Igbo Dudu. His formidable screen presence and iconic roles made him one of the most respected figures in Nigerian theatre and cinema.Tributes have since poured in from fans and fellow actors alike, hailing him as a legend whose legacy will continue to influence the Nigerian film industry for years to come.
